Uber Driver Pay Calculator

Gross pay per hour is not your pay. Enter your real numbers to see net earnings per hour after mileage, vehicle costs, and the expenses most drivers forget. Everything runs in your browser.

In 2026, Uber drivers gross about $23.88 per active hour including tips and bonuses, according to Gridwise data from more than 500,000 drivers, and the average driver logs 21.2 active hours a week. Active time means the trip clock is running; it excludes waiting between rides. Real pay is what survives expenses: roughly 40% of miles earn nothing, the IRS values driving costs at 76 cents per mile for the second half of 2026, and self-employment tax takes 15.3% of net earnings.

    Why gross pay misleads drivers

Every driver-pay number you see quoted is a gross number, and every gross number hides the same three costs: unpaid time, vehicle expenses, and taxes. Gridwise's 2026 figure of $23.88 per active hour is real, measured across half a million drivers, but the word doing the work is active. It counts only time with a passenger or en route to one. Waiting for the next request, driving back from a drop-off in a dead zone, circling for parking near the airport queue: none of that is in the number, and drivers commonly spend 35 to 45% of online time unpaid.

Then the car. About 40% of miles driven earn nothing: deadhead miles to pickups and repositioning. At the IRS's 76 cents per mile for the second half of 2026, a driver logging 400 miles a week carries over $300 a week in vehicle costs, most of it invisible depreciation and maintenance rather than gas. Then taxes: 15.3% self-employment tax on net earnings, with nothing withheld. A driver grossing $500 a week can easily net under $300 after honest expenses, and under $250 after setting aside taxes.

None of this means driving cannot work. It means the decision has to be made on net numbers, not on the recruitment ad.
